The 3rd International Conference on Polar and Alpine Microbiology will be held in Banff, Alberta, Canada from May 11 - May 15, 2008, coinciding with the International Polar Year (IPY). This meeting will be a continuation of the highly successful meetings previously held in March 2004 in Rovaniemi, Finland, and in March 2006 in Innsbruck, Austria, which brought together leading international researchers and students in this field. The objectives of the Banff meeting will be again to bring together scientists, students and professionals to discuss all aspects of cold-adapted microorganisms and the roles they play in polar and alpine environments, to address recent developments and to exchange ideas and experiences on an international scale. In addition, this meeting will have sessions dealing with cold-adapted fungi and viruses.
The meeting sessions and official accommodation will be at The Banff Centre. Registration for the conference will be via the Banff Centre at:

Initiated in 1982 by Dr. William Paranchych, Dr. Don Woods, and their colleagues from the Universities of Alberta and Calgary, the UA-UC Conference on Infectious Diseases (now called the Banff Conference on Infectious Diseases) represents a unique forum for internationally-recognized experts to present their research on pathogenesis and other aspects of infectious diseases and host defenses.
The fourteenth biennial Banff Conference on Infectious Diseases will be held May 27 to May 31, 2008 at the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta.
