Presentation at The University of Guelph (Trip 1)

In order to organize my seminar at the University of Guelph I was assisted by Sarah Bruce, administrative support, and Dr. Jeff Farber, Graduate Coordinator and Director of the Canadian Research Institute for Food Safety (CRIFS). We were unable to schedule the talk in conjunction with any of the graduate seminar series, so the Food Science Department took the initiative to book the room, advertise the talk and provide refreshments during the seminar. The 45 minute talk was well attended by the Food Science Department and included an overview of the CSM, benefits for students and promotion of this year’s annual conference in Toronto, ON. Following the seminar a pizza lunch with refreshments was provided and I was able to interact with faculty and staff in a one-on-one setting to further discuss my research and answer questions regarding the CSM. To conclude the day, the manager of CRIFS, Rocio Morales, kindly gave me a tour of their research facilities and informed me about some of the food safety projects they currently have underway. The ambassador award provided an excellent opportunity to network with food microbiologists and opened the door to future career opportunities.
