Dear Colleagues, As conference co-chairs, it is our pleasure and privilege to invite you to the 67th Canadian Society of Microbiologists Annual Conference, to be held in Waterloo, Ontario. CSM2017 promises to be a showcase of the best microbiological research in the country, with many opportunities to foster research connections. Continuing the CSM’s commitment to our early career researchers, each day will feature sessions exclusively presented by graduate students or postdoctoral research fellows, highlighting up-and-coming scientists in our society.
We are delighted to announce that our keynote speaker will be Ed Yong, a science writer for The Atlantic who is renowned for his clarity in scientific communication and his humour. His most recent book, “I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life”, examines microbiomes across the animal kingdom, from wasps and squid to humans.
A short trip from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, Waterloo is a central and convenient location for the 2017 conference. The University of Waterloo boasts a modern campus with ample green space and a river running alongside. Social activities during the meeting will include a student mixer in Uptown Waterloo featuring the area’s local microbreweries, and a President’s banquet celebrating the German heritage of the Kitchener Waterloo region at an Oktoberfest hall. Please help us market the conference by circulating the CSM 2017 Waterloo Conference poster to your colleagues who might be interested in attending.
We very much look forward to seeing you in Waterloo next June. Best, Josh Neufeld and Laura Hug CSM2017 conference co-chairs
